Alright, y'all, let me first say that this movie is rated R for a reason. Deadpool is not and has never been a kid-friendly "hero", hell most of the time I'm not even sure he's actually a hero at all. He's a self-motivated guy with mutant powers and a smart mouth. I love him.
Hubby and I went on a double date with some friends and saw this glorious flick yesterday. I don't want to accidentally spoil anything, so I'll just say that it was everything I hoped it would be, plus a little bit more.
I will say there was a tiny dispute between Hubby and I regarding this lovely movie. He felt like the origin portion of the story was a tad too long. I (having not know the origin story), respectfully disagreed. I think they did a great job of keeping the story going while also letting you see how and why it all got started.
Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool. No one could've done a better job filling out that red leather suit, and that cocky son of a bitch attitude. He was the perfect person and he clearly loved every second of it. I can imagine he's sitting at home right now, playing with his kid, while Blake reads something lovely, in his red suit because he refused to give it back when filming was over. Love him.
To the ladies in the bathroom after the movie, going on about how vulgar his language is or the grotesque violence, you clearly never watched the previews or bothered to pick up a comic before coming to the theater. That's fine, but now that you've been through the shock and awe, did you enjoy it? "It was a lot more vulgar than I thought. Definitely not a kid movie (no shit..) but it was really good." Thank you, random chicks chatting in line at the bathroom.
To the idiot parents who think they know better than the rating system, yes, sometimes they over rate things and it might be OK for your 13 year old to watch a rated R thing without traumatizing them. Deadpool is not such an occurrence. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT take your child to this movie. Unless your child is actually a grown person, then go for it, bond like crazy over all the crazy.
In conclusion, Deadpool: awesome, not a kid movie, don't be stupid.
