Now, this show may seem like it doesn't fit with my usual theme, but allow me to explain:
I was horrified as I watched Nathan gouge out one of Xander's eyes. I witnessed him in all his douchey superhero glory as he "fought" the evil of Neil Patrick Harris. I fell in love with him as my Captain.
I started watching Castle on TNT simply because he was my Captain. I continued watching because I enjoyed the show. Sometimes, Castle's extreme willingness to believe that there were ninjas hunting them, or that Eddie Thawne was in fact the anti-christ, or that things were haunted was a little irksome, because (honestly, Captain) be realistic. Still, I felt like it was a good show. I loved Kevin and Javi. I think they are two of my favorite detectives, ever. I love Kate. Despite her constant desire to "protect" Castle by keeping things from him, I loved the two of them together. From the beginning, their dynamic was amazing; funny, clever, and thoroughly entertaining.
I had been following articles and Nathan on twitter, leading me to think that this would be the last season. In fact, Nathan even tweeted at one point about Stana not coming back for the next season, but they hadn't officially canceled. It seemed like the network actually considered having Castle without Kate. Ha! That would have ended very badly, very quickly. When the show was actually canceled, I have to say, I was a little relieved. At least they weren't going to try and limp on without one of their major players. That would have just been stupid.
Going into the series finale, I knew I wouldn't like it, because it wasn't planned (like Parenthood) and it was going to leave with too many unanswered questions (like Gilmore Girls). I procrastinated watching it, but I had to know what they decided to do, so I watched it. I was right. I hated it.
If you haven't seen it yet, this is the time to STOP READING.
