I highly encourage anyone planning on breastfeeding to invest in a breast pump. Especially if you're a breastfeeding, working momma. I used a Medela single pump that could run on batteries or plug in. It made things so much easier. If I wanted to have a drink, that's cool! Just pump everything dry first, put it in the fridge for the morning and have fun. Please note that pumping and dumping isn't necessary. I always liked to pump first, so that if Connor woke up hungry and I didn't think it had been long enough for the alcohol to work it's way out of my system (and my milk), I could just give him a bottle of the freshly pumped stuff.
If you aren't comfortable with my system, by all means, do what you feel is best. Isn't that how parenting is supposed to go anyway? With our second child, I plan on bfing more and longer. With Connor, I wasn't able to bf after going back to work; my supply dried up. With Kylar, there is no work to go back to, so hopefully I'll be able to bf him for longer. I'm hoping to get the first full year, but I'll be happy if I can get 6 months. I have no idea what to expect.
