I know I'm not the only one who feels overwhelmed by the holiday season. Bouncing between family functions, cooking, baking, shopping, cleaning, etc etc etc... Such a stressful, busy, hectic time. It's not my favorite. I love the family time, watching my son play with his cousins, visiting with relatives, eating delicious food. If we could skip the present part, or drastically limit it, I'd be much happier, but I know I'm the only one who feels like that, so the commercialization will prevail.
This was the first year Connor really cared (last year, he was only 4 months old), so that was fun, but he got really overwhelmed and ended up playing with my dad in the kitchen while everyone else opened (an absurd amount of) presents in the living room. Which is just as well; he and my dad don't get to spend as much time together because my dad works a lot still.
Then there's New Years. I always have fun on New Years. Pretty fireworks, friends, food, booze (during the years I'm not pregnant or bfing), good times! This year, we are having out of town friends come to stay with us. We've never done that. We've never been in a position (own home with spare bed) to have overnight guests before! It's all very exciting.
To sum up: Happy Christmas/Winter Holiday, and have a wonderful (and safe!) New Year!!
