I love Thanksgiving. It's quite possibly the best holiday ever. Yes, I do think Thanksgiving outranks Christmas. Wanna know why? Because the whole point of the holiday is to be grateful for what you have and focus on all the good in your life. Now, you might get upset by that statement and think "wait a minute! Christmas is about Jesus and family and giving." That might be true for you, and that's great, but in our society, Christmas has become insanely commercialized and I hate it.
There's no real commercialization of Thanksgiving because it's all about eating turkeys and hams and sitting around with family. People argue that this holiday is a perfect example for why Americans are so fat, and they have plenty of evidence to back that up, but I still love it. It's a whole day devoted to eating delicious food, hanging out with family, and being reminded of all the things that are good in your life and taking a moment to be thankful for them. 3 years ago, this was a very hard day for me. We'd just lost our first baby a few weeks prior and I was having a hard time finding anything to be thankful for. The very next year, I was so thankful to have our little boy in my arms and able to share him with our families. This year, I'm over the moon with our beautiful, perfect, brilliant family. I decided to make a list of all that I'm thankful for, so I have a visual reminder when things get crappy. -My husband He works his ass off every day so I can stay home with our boys. -Connor He's so clever and sweet. I swear he does something to amaze me every single day. -Kylar My sweet little babe. He can spend hours screaming, fussing and demanding attention, but one second of that beautiful smile and I completely forget all the bad. -My parents I honestly don't have words for how much I love them and am thankful for everything they've done for me and my family. -My siblings Both blood and in-laws. They provide much needed perspective and comedic relief everyday -My in-laws Much like my own parents, they have done so much for us that I really can't express how much I appreciate them -Our beloved friends Seriously, y'all, life would be so much harder and more boring without you. Here's my homework for each and every one of you (classify this as a mini-teacher flashback): Take 5 minutes and make a list of the things in your life you are grateful for. Write it down. Type it up. Put it somewhere you can see it. Look at it every time things are looking grime and you're just miserable. Be grateful for all the good in your life. Cherish it. That's what this holiday is all about.
